Oreste Ferrari, un protagonista della politica dei beni culturali
Oreste Ferrari, historic editor of “Storia dell’arte”, was also a great official and “servant of the State” for the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage. Trained at La Sapienza University in Rome, with Lionello Venturi, Giulio Carlo Argan and Mario Salmi, he contributed with fundamental studies on Neapolitan painting (Giordano, Giaquinto, Rosa, Cavallino, Ribera), baroque sculpture, decorative arts, painting techniques, iconographic issues, Bernini and the 16th century painting. The essay explains Ferrari’s activities and main initiatives as director of the Central Catalog Office (later central Institute for Catalog and Documentation, ICCD).
