Per Giovanni Maria Morandi: una tavoletta ritrovata in San Giovanni Decollato

At the religious complex of San Giovanni Decollato in Rome, it is still preserved an important group of devotional painting, also known as “pietà”. The homonym Archconfraternity used these paintings throughout its history to bring comfort to those condemned to death during their last moments of life. In the present contribution, based on an archival discovery confirmed by stylistic comparison, one of these tablets is attributed to the painter of Florentine origin Giovanni Maria Morandi, who donated it to the pious association in 1684.
