Il tabernacolo dell’altare del Crocifisso a S. Angelo in Pescheria, opera di Filippo Ferrari
The lucky discovery, in a roman private archive, of the contract stipulated in 1856 between the parish priest of the church of Sant’Angelo in Pescheria and the sculptor Filippo Ferrari has led to recognize in that artist the maker of the tabernacle of the Crucifix Altar. This paper retraces the activity of the sculptor Ferrari, from the “Repubblica Romana” of 1849, and the return of Pope Pius IX to Rome, until 1870. Based on the documents regarding the restorations undertaken in the church at that time, and with the help of some historical photographs, this research aims to reconstruct the complex iter that had brought to the completion of the Altar, between 1866 and 1870.
