Quattro disegni di Domenichino per i pennacchi di S. Andrea della Valle
At the beginning of the 1620s, Domenichino received some of the most prestigious public commissions in Rome: the decoration of the presbytery, the pendentives and, most likely, the dome of the church of St. Andrea della Valle, the latter of which was eventually frescoed by Giovanni Lanfranco.
In preparation of the frescoes, the artist produced an impressive number of studies, including four monumental redchalk drawings for the pendentives of the dome, two of which are still unpublished and are presented here for the first time.
